When Dena Condra’s children grew up and moved out, she found herself with something new: free time. But rather than simply filling her calendar, Dena sought something more—something meaningful. That search led her to Westminster Neighborhood Services, where she’s been a dedicated volunteer since October 2024.
Dena’s favorite part of volunteering? The people.“The staff are friendly, helpful, and truly intentional about building relationships with both volunteers and patrons,” she shared. “I also really enjoy talking with the neighbors who come in to receive services—it’s meaningful to connect with them and be part of a supportive community.”
One of her most memorable experiences was volunteering during Westminster’s Christmas Baskets and food pantries. “It was heartwarming to see such an overwhelming number of volunteers come together,” Dena recalled. “Even more moving was witnessing how many community members we were able to support. I especially remember assisting patrons to their cars. They were so thankful for the kindness and support shared with them. It was a powerful reminder of the impact we can have through small acts of service.”
Whether it’s chatting with neighbors as they shop or lending a hand with food distribution, Dena brings warmth and connection to every shift. A special education teacher at Warren Central High School, she also coaches Unified sports and treasures time with her growing family including two granddaughters.
To anyone considering volunteering at Westminster, Dena has just one message: do it! "It’s a meaningful and rewarding experience. You’ll feel welcomed, supported, and like part of a community. Whether you're distributing food or simply having a conversation with a neighbor, you’ll know you're making a difference.”
Ready to make a difference? Dena’s story is a powerful reminder that every conversation, every shared smile, and every moment of service matters. Whether you have a few hours a week or just want to get started, there’s a place for you here. Sign up to volunteer and become part of the Westminster community today!
