Volunteer FAQ

Volunteers are central to Westminster and our mission to serve our neighbors on the Near Eastside of Indianapolis. Volunteering at a new place sometimes comes with a lot of questions. Here are a few of our most frequently asked questions.

Q: how do i become a
volunteer?

A: From the Get Involved dropdown on our website, you’ll find the “Volunteer Sign-Up” page.  Select the Sign Up Now button and from here you can browse our volunteer calendar and find dates that fit your schedule.

Q: What do volunteers do at the Pantry?

A: Volunteers help guide our neighbors through our store-like pantry. Volunteers keep track of points used and answer any questions our neighbors have while shopping.

Volunteers also help set-up and serve the lunch Westminster provides during pantry hours.

Q: When am i able to volunteer?

A: Our Pantry hours are Monday and Thursday 9am-12pm. Senior pantry days are the third Wednesday of every month from 9am-12pm.

Q: are we able to schedule group & company opportunities?

A: Absolutely! To schedule a Company or Group Day of Service, please fill out the form on our Volunteer-Sign-Up Page. Our Pantry Coordinator will reach out to schedule.

Q: What if i can't volunteer during pantry hours?

A: Westminster is always looking for volunteers to help with stocking, organizing, cleaning, and yard work. We also have a list of special projects that groups can collaborate on.

Westminster kids love volunteers! From homework help and tutoring to mentor opportunities, we have opportunities to volunteer with our youth program.

Q: What should i wear?

A: We ask that volunteers wear closed toe shoes. We recommend wearing comfortable clothes as volunteers may be doing a variety of activities such as walking, lifting, and sorting.

Q: i want to help, but can't volunteer in person. HOw else can i help?

A: There are several ways to support our mission at Westminster.

We always welcome donations. Without them, we could not provide the assistance we do to so many of our Near Eastside Neighbors. You can donate by accessing the Donate button at the top of our website.

We also accept non-perishable pantry staples.

Be on the lookout for our annual back-to-school and holiday initiatives as well!

Q: what do i bring?

A: Unless you have been directed otherwise, Westminster will provide all equipment needed for the day. Water and snacks will be available if you need them. You are welcome to bring your own.

Q: Where do i go?

A: Our address is: 2325 E New York St. We're the big blue/grey building on the southside of New York St.

You can park in the gravel lot at the corner of New York and Keystone.

You'll enter the building from our volunteer entrance, the first door on Keystone St., right across from the gravel lot.

Q: How do i cancel my volunteer shift?

A: Please email our Pantry Coordinator, Jeff at your earliest convenience.
